Boy may have planned to bring pipe bomb to school: police
Canwest News Service January 14, 2010

A 13-year-old Ontario boy has been arrested after a homemade pipe bomb was found in his home, and police believe the youth may have planned to take the weapons to his school. The investigation began after a Grade 8 student from Courtice, just east of Oshawa, Ont. did not show up for class at Dr. G.J. MacGillivray Public School on Wednesday. "We called home, then heard from police a student had left a threatening note," said Judy Malfar, of the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. The boy's mother found the note a few hours later and immediately phoned police. Police say the note contained threats to use homemade bombs to hurt other students at the school.

During the past 25 years, thankfully, not one child has died in North America, in a fire, in a school, during school hours. And it is legislated how many times a year / term / month that we must practice fire drills. In Canada, there is no legislation at the Federal, Provincial or Municipal level to force lockdown practices in our schools.
Very recently the government of Ontario Ministry of Education has come out with guidelines for developing and maintaining lockdown procedures.(June 2009)
S ince 1975 (in Canada) there have been at least 29 reported deaths and 60+ injured people, not to mention the long term psychological effects on the survivors and families of these horrid events.
